Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]George Huntington was a candidate for lieutenant governor. John Taylor is a common misspelling of John Tayler, also a candidate for lieutenant governor.
[3]The Albany Register (Albany, NY), June 8, and The Columbian (New York, NY), June 22, report a total of 39,720 votes for Stephen Van Rensselaer.
[4]Daniel D. Tompkins received 1 vote as D. D. Tompkins.
[5]"City Election -- We are now able to gratify the public curiosity with a compleat return of this city for Governor, Lieut. Governor, Senator and Members of Assembly. The result is auspicious to the cause of Peace, Liberty and Commerce. When we consider the immense patronage of the general government and the state government which has been brought to bear upon this city on occasion, and when we take into the account, that besides open and know opponents, whom we could see and resist, we have had to contend with secret and unknown enemies wearing the guise of friends; -- 'a fawning treachery against which no prudence can guard, no courage defend' -- surely our success may justly be regarded as a great victory."
[6]The Columbian (New York, NY), May 3: " 'The patronge of the general government' has given the federalists the assembly ticket in New-York. In assigning this patronage as the cause of the diminution of the federal majority, there is a mistake. It has sent two or three hundred ship-carpenters, boat-builders, riggers, andc to Sacket's-Harbor and Black Rock, sufficient to have carried in the republican ticket. It has induced, if this sacrifice to patriotism can be called patronage, several hundred republican electors to enlist in the volunteer corps for the defence of the city and harbor, and thus given the federalists the election. And a considerable loss has been sustained by the republicans in privateers, probably enough to have turned the election--though we don't mean to say that in this there is any governmental patronage, as the fact happens to be rather the reverse. At any rate the federalists have not suffered in the election by any of this patronage, while the republicans have lost hundreds of votes by it." New-York Evening Post (New York, NY). May 1, 1813.
[7]The Columbian. (For the Country) (New York, NY), May 5, reports 228 votes for Stephen Van Rensselaer in Ward 4.
[8]The New-York Spectator (New York, NY), May 5, and The Statesman (For the Country) (New York, NY), May 4, report 160 votes for Daniel D. Tompkins in Ward 5.
[9]Queens County in Olden Times lists 671 votes for Daniel D. Tompkins in Queens County.
[10]Queens County in Olden Times lists 56 votes for Daniel D. Tompkins in Flushing.
[11]Daniel D. Tompkins received 1 vote as Daniel T. Tompkins.
[12]In a probable typographical error, National Advocate (New York, NY), May 19, reports 490 votes for Daniel D. Tompkins in Huntington.
[13]The Columbian (New York, NY), May 21, National Advocate (New York, NY), May 19, and Long Island Star, May 19, report 413 votes for Daniel D. Tompkins in Southampton.
[14]"In laying before our readers the above Canvass of the county, a few remarks become necessary, to refute the assertion of the war party, that the Friends of Peace are decreasing in this county ... "We have before us, the canvass of this county for four years past: The average majority for the last four years for Senators, is 412; for Assemblymen the average majority for the same number of years is 543 -- this year the majority for Senators is 517, and for Assembly 853! Now tell us, you supporters of this war -- you worshippers of Napoleon Bonaparte -- you toad-eaters of Jemmy Madison, is the federal character of this county, or are the Friends of Peace in this county, disgraced by the result of this election? -- We might go on and state the names of persons belonging to the War party in this city, who swore in their votes for Governor, whose children, are now or were on the point of being supported at the expense of this city: we have but one report to make -- let the overseers of the poor, or those whose duty is to investigate this business, ascertain where the property lies of these persons who have thus presumed to vote for Daniel D. Tompkins and war, and obtain security for the expence of supporting their children. "Notwithstanding the unfortunate result with regard to the election of Governor, there will be about the same federal majorty in the House of Assembly this that there was last year."
[15]The Bee (Hudson, NY), May 11: "At the last Governor election, which was in 1810, the federal candidate Jonas Platt had in this county 2134 votes, and Daniel D. Tompkins, republican, 1608 -- federal majority 526. This year the federal majority is but 515 -- a federal loss of 11. Let us hear no more of the boasted gain of the 'spurious peace party' in this county. "For Assemblymen the republicans of this county were very remiss in giving their votes. Knowing as they did that not a hope of success could be entertained, many quietly permitted the federalists to pour in their whole strength. But on the choice of governor the prospect was brighter. The independent freeholders have spoken to the spoken to the traitorous 'peace party' a language they little expected to hear -- 'thus far shalt you go, and no farther.' "The re-election of GOV. TOMPKINS, as before anticipated, is now confirmed. The precise majority is not yet ascertained." Northern Whig (Hudson, NY). May 11, 1813.
[16]Stephen Van Rensselaer received 1 vote as Stephen R. Van Rensselaer..
[17]"A gentleman is now with me from Putnam county, who says, his excellency D. D. Tompkins will have, at least, 300 majority in that county. But for local difficulties in Putnam, the majority would have been 500, instead of 300, for the present governor; and those local difficulties would not have existed, had not Old Dutchess been divided last year." The Columbian. (For the Country) (New York, NY). May 5, 1813.

[27]"From a Correspondent, 'Plattsburgh, 5th May 1813. I send you a statement of votes taken in Clinton and Franklin. You may publish it without the fear of being ultimately detected in an error. 'Before I proceed, however, to give you this statement I would remark, that the result of the election in these two counties is more favorable than we had expected. There had been a small gain in favor of the peace ticket, which was altogether unlooked for. We knew there would be a very great reduction of votes in all the frontier towns, owing to the removal of many of the inhabitants out of the counties ; and as these towns were all federal by large majorities, we were convinced that the effect of this reduction must necessarily have an unfavorable bearing upon our cause -- All therefore we calculated upon was to hold our own. We have however, done something more -- General Van Renaselaer [sic] has a small majority: which by the bye is the first time, I believe, these two counties have ever given a majority in favor of the federal ticket either for Governor or Senators -- When Tompkins was last elected, he had a majority of about 50.'"
