[3]The Niagara Journal (Buffalo, NY) May 8, 1821 combines both Niagara and Erie counties in reporting the vote count for the election. Erie County was created by the State Legislature on April 2, 1821. The State Election was held April 24 - 26, 1821. This was to cause some confusion as County Officials for Erie had not yet been appointed and the first court did not meet until May and other County officials did not get elected until June 1, 1821. The law establishing Erie county states that the votes for the town in the new county, should be counted as being in Niagara, but then past onto the County Clerk of Erie, who was not yet appointed. Technically until County Officers were appointed and elected, Erie was still part of Niagara. This was the case when the state election was held and results announced, but by the time the State Wide Official Canvass was conducted [late May], Erie had becoming a functioning County and so the votes for it were reported separately.
[4]Thomas B. Campbell receievd 17 votes as Thomas Campbell.
[5]Isaac Phelps, Jr. receievd 172 votes as Isaac Phelps.
[6]John A. Bryan receievd 1 vote as John A. Byan.
