[3]"The ballot was then open for Selectmen, and at the close of the poll, the whole number of votes was found to be 1284, necessary to a choice 643; Mr. Moses Townsend had 647, Mr. Joseph Ward 645 (both of the democratic ticket) and were chosen. No other candidate had a sufficient number to be chosen." Salem Gazette (Salem, MA). March 12, 1811.
