[4]"The senate and house of representatives having met in the senate-chamber, agreeably to the order of the day, proceeded to the nomination of persons, out of whom shall be chosen, by ballot, electors on the part of this state, for the election of a President and Vice-President of the United States; and the following persons were nominated, to wit." [5]"The senate and house of representatives having met in the senate-chamber, agreeably to appointment, proceeded, by joint ballot, to the election aforesaid, and the ballots being taken and examined, James Sykes having twenty six ballots, being the whole number put in the box; and William Hill Wells, and Gunning Bedford, the elder, having each seventeen of the ballots, put into the box, were declared to be duly chosen electors, on the part of this state, for the election of a President and Vice-President of the United States."
