[3]"A caucus was held at Albany on Thursday in the assembly room, composed principally of members of the legislature, at which the honorable De Witt Clinton was nominated lieutenant governor . . . It was next determined that the question should be taken on the gentlemen having the two highest votes." United States' Gazette (Philadelphia, PA). March 22, 1811.
[4]"From what I can learn out of doors, the Madisonians (as the opponents of Mr. Clinton style themselves) are much exasperated at this premature meeting and nomination. They have been endeavering to prevail on Mr. Livingston to run in opposition to Mr. Clinton, but it is said he prudently declines. Others are now talked of, amongst whom, Mr. Burt, or Orange, stands high. Last night, pursuant to adjournment, there was to be a general meeting; but my paper went to press too early to enable me to state the result." The Balance, and State Journal (Albany, NY). March 19, 1811.
