[7]"We have now the aggregate result of the Congressional election, and it appears that the Democratic candidates are elected by triumphant majorities. How little, how contemptible do the dunghill politicians of Bradford county appear to have attempted to run off Gen. M'Kean, who stands the highest on the ticket, and has a majority over the federal candidate of nearly FIVE THOUSAND votes. We are doubly pleased with the result of the late election; previous thereto we had accidentally learned the designs of the federalist, in the distant townships of the county, though every thing in this place was kept remarkably still, until the day after the election; when we heard from every federal mouth that M'Kean was defeated - some even offered to bet he was not elected. But in the county it appears he had more than five hundred majority and in the district more than forty-five hundred - thus have all the high sounding threats of the federal party been accomplished." Bradford Settler (Towanda, PA). October 28, 1824.
