Notes:

[1]Elected
[2]The vote totals in District 8 are estimated, being based on the ratio of votes cast in the surrounding districts between 1796-1800. D.H. Gilpatrick, in his book JEFFERSONIAN DEMOCRACY IN NORTH CAROLINA 1789-1816, notes that David Stone was elected, having 375 more votes than Charles Johnson and 450 more than Dempsey Burgess. I have therefore applied Gilpatrick's figures for David Stone in District 8 to obtain returns for this election.
[3]"Judge Stone is elected for the district of Edenton. -- From the abilities, integrity and patriotism of this gentleman, we presage the most solid advantages to our country." Gazette of the United States, and Philadelphia Daily Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA). September 1, 1798.
