[8]The United States' Gazette (Philadelphia, PA) of October 16, 1809 lists two separate Federalist tickets - it appears that there was a split in the Federalist party, with different groups supporting different candidates. One ticket included Robinson, Burton, Hall, Wilson, Woolten, Rogers, and Walter. The other, referred to in this paper as the "Fair Play ticket", included Green, Vickers, MacCullen, Carlisle, Aydelott, Waller, and Loftland.
[9]The United States' Gazette (Philadelphia, PA) of October 16, 1809 refers to Ebenezer Walter, and Nutter Loftland as Ebe Walter, and Nutter Lofland, respectively.
[10]"We have not obtained the returns from Sussex, but toryism, no doubt, prevails." The American Watchman; and Delaware Republican (Wilmington, DE). October 7, 1809.
[11]"Green and Vickers had about 230 and the rest of this ticket about 140 democratick [sic] votes." United States' Gazette (Philadelphia, PA). October 16, 1809.
