Notes:
[1]Massachusetts law required a majority to elect for the U.S. House of Representatives. The original election was held on November 4, 1822. A 3rd Trial would be held on May 12, 1823.
[2]Some confusion in reporting the votes was caused by there being two candidates with the same last name: Jonas Kendall from Leominster and Joseph G. Kendall from Ashby. The National Aegis made some attempt to clarify this by listing all the votes cast in several towns as Republican (Samuel Dana) and Federal (Lewis Bigelow, Jonas Kendall and Joseph G. Kendall). In addition some newspapers listed votes for Joseph G. Kendall and Jonas Kendall under a column called 'Kendall' and which contained votes for both candidates. In addition to the mistake in votes for Ashby, the Original Returns did not report one scattering vote in Pepperell and the 673 figure given to Jonas Kendall, added up to 674. That vote however, is also incorrect, as it includes 76 votes actually cast for Samuel Dana.
