Notes:
[1]Vermont law required a majority to elect for the U.S. House of Representatives. A third ballot would be held on March 25, 1805.
[2]The Official Certified Results list Samuel C. Crafts with 38 votes and Nathaniel Niles with 5 votes but only 19 of Crafts' votes and 3 of Niles' votes were identified among the scattering votes.
[3]"By the foregoing statement, it appears that no choice has been effected; that the Hon. Mr. Chamberlain had six votes more than Mr. Fisk; but of those legally certified and returned, Mr. Fisk had three more than Mr. Chamberlain. There were forty six scattering votes; of these Mr. Crafts had thirty eight, and Mr. Niles, five; the remainder for three different persons." The Green Mountain Patriot (Peacham, VT), January 15, 1805.
[4]The Weekly Wanderer (Randolph, VT), January 28, reports 685 votes for William Chamberlain in Caledonia.
[5]These returns, although counted by the Committee of Elections, were eventually rejected and not included in the Official Canvass of votes.

[8]The Town Records listed 69 freemen as voting, however they also listed the same vote numbers in this December (second) election as they did in the original September election, William Chamberlain 53 votes, James Fisk 13 votes, which appear to be transcription errors.
