[4]"Word has just arrived that William Witman, of Berks county, our candidate for congress, died suddenly yesterday on the election ground, at his place of voting, where he went in perfect health." Aurora. General Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA). October 14, 1808.
[5]"With deep and sincere regret, we announce the death of Mr. Whitman. The circumstances and cause of his death are as follows: - the election was held at his tavern, about 100 yards from his dwelling house. He was in the tavern at eleven o'clock, when the election closed, he went home directly to bed, and in half an hour was found dead.
