[2]"The Legislature of Pennsylvania met at Harrisburg on the 6th inst. A quorum of both houses appeared on that day...neither of the candidates having a majority, the senate then adjourned ~ the next day the same ballot was made. The Senate finding they could not agree on either of the first named gentlemen, elected John Tod Speaker by a unamimous vote." The Pittsburgh Gazette (Pittsburgh, PA). December 20, 1814. The Senate's decision on December 8 followed two ballots on December 6 and two ballots on December 7.
