Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]"Election for the York District -- ....The account published in our last of this election was incorrect, though the general result is more satisfactoy, and was communicated to us in the following extract of a letter from York: "I have the pleasure to announce to you the triumph of truth and federalism in this district. The subjoined statement of the polls, this day compared by the sheriffs of the counties, shows the disciples of Washington have done their duty."" Norfolk Gazette and Publick Ledger (Norfolk, VA). May 12, 1813.
[3]"It is understood that Mr. Bassett means to contest the election of Mr. Baily." The Columbian (New York, NY). May 25, 1813.
[4]The Enquirer (Richmond, VA): "In Accomac, the poll was kept open for three days, it is said, in the very teeth of the law. Bailey had 734 votes, Basset 67. Mr. Bailey is returned in the shole district by a majority of about 57."
[5]Augusta Chronicle: "Gloucester County. Majority for Mr. Basset, Re132"
[6]Norfolk Gazette and Publick Ledger (Norfolk, VA): "The Congressional election in this District lately represented by Mr. Basset, came on in Gloucester County on Monday last, when Mr. Basset obtained a majority of one hundred and thirty two votes; in the same county, his majority in 1809 was two hundred and twenty one!"
[7]National Advocate (New York, NY), The Virginia Argus (Richmond, VA) and The Enquirer (Richmond, VA) reported 176 votes for Bassett.
[8]National Advocate (New York, NY) reported 93 votes for Bassett.
[9]At the time, Williamsburg was split between James City County and York County and was not yet an independent city. The votes in Williamsburg appear to have been reported independently of either county.
