Notes:

[1]The above returns were taken from The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) of November 27, 1804 and probably represent the highest vote cast in each county for the respective list of Electors.
[2]The Aurora of November 29, 1804 and the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) of December 4, 1804 list the same total returns for Pennsylvania and for every county as listed in The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) of November 27, 1804, with the exception of Dauphin County.
[3]"From the returns received in the office of the Secretary of this commonwealth, it appears, that the number of votes given in the different counties of the state for Electors of a President and Vice-President of the United States, [were as follows:] For the Republican ticket headed by Charles Thompson 22,103 [;] For the Federalist ticket headed by George Lattimer 1,179." The Farmers Register (Greensburg, PA), November 30, 1804; The Enquirer (Richmond, VA), December 1, 1804; and, The Universal Gazette (Washington, DC), November 29, 1804.
[4]In many sources only two vote totals are reported for a county. These totals are attributed to the candidate with the highest vote totals on each ticket, who are Charles Thompson for the Republican ticket and George Lattimer for the Federalist ticket, respectively.
[5]"Returns of the election...have all come in, by which it appears that the democratic ticket had 22,103 votes, the federal ticket, 1,179...Democratic majority, 20,924." The Adams Centinel (Gettysburg, PA). November 28, 1804.
[6]Original Election Returns from Allegheny County list Alexander Addison as having received one vote as an Elector for Thomas Jefferson. All other tickets list Addison as an Elector for Charles C. Pinckney.
[7]The vote total for Francis Swaine is lower than the other Republican electors because in the Forrest Distict 147 votes were mistakenly cast for Isaac Swaine, who was not a candidate.
[8]The vote totals for the Republicans are from the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA), November 13, 1804.
[9]The vote totals for the Republicans listed in the Aurora. General Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA), November 10, 1804 are all higher, by about 3 to 5 votes each, than the vote totals for Republicans listed in the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA), November 13, 1804.
[10]The total votes listed for Reading Borough are from the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) of November 6, 1804, which is also the source for the individual township totals in Reading County.
[11]The total votes listed for Marks John Biddle in Reading Borough is 76, however, the sum of the township vote totals for him is 74.
[12]The Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) of November 6, 1804 lists John Hamilton and Nathaniel Irish each with 76 votes in Bern township, which is 3 less votes than the other Republican electors, 79 votes each. However, the totals listed for John Hamilton and Nathaniel Irish in Reading Borough, are listed as if they receive 79 votes here.
[13]The Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) of November 6, 1804 lists Marks John Biddle with 64 votes in Reading Township, and some sources list him with 66 votes. However, the sum of the individual township totals listed in the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA), November 6, 1804, is 74 for Reading Borough, and the total they list is 76.
[14]Clearfield county was erected on March 26, 1804. From 1804 until 1811 Clearfield county voted with Centre county by an act of the legislature stating: "That the county of Clearfield shall be an election district, and the electors thereof shall hold their general elections at the house of Benjamin Jordan, in the said district, and shall be entitled to vote for members of the Federal and State Legislatures, sheriffs, commissioners, and other county officers for Centre County." History of Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, p.66
[15]"I transmit to you inclosed [sic] herein, a transcript from the original return of the election of electors for president and vice-president of the United States. I have no particular remarks to make at present, but I cannot help observing to you, that there are a few honest men among the 'union of all honest men' -- four out of seventy-eight, in this county, three could not find it in their hearts to vote for that sanctified, would be, immaculate Judge Addison." Aurora. General Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA). November 8, 1804.
[16]"N.B. Through some mistake in the judges and clerks of the sixth election district, they returned but 19 electors, the name of Wm. Brown being entirely omitted; this accounts for his being lower in the vote than the other gentlemen on the republican ticket." Aurora. General Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA). November 8, 1804.
[17]The Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) of December 4, 1804 lists Dauphin County with a total of 566 Republican votes, unlike other papers which list the vote at 569. The one number listed is to represent the number of votes for each elector, by party.
[18]"We have not inserted the names of the gentlemen composing each ticket, as they were voted as they stood in our last paper~with one exception. Dr. John King had one vote more and Jacob Bonnet one vote less, than the rest of the candidates of their respective tickets." Kline's Carlisle Weekly Gazette (Carlisle, PA). November 9, 1804. It is not clear in which district these differences occur. The district totals are given equally for all candidates.
[19]The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) of November 13, 1804, lists the "Aristocratic" (Federalist) electors with 29 votes, but the subsequent November 27, 1804 edition and other papers list them with 32.
[20]Potter County was created in 1804 from Lycoming County and remained attached "to Lycoming County until 1814 when it was authorized to elect commissioners jointly with McKean County. McKean and Potter Counties were separated in 1824, but Potter was still attached to McKean for judicial purposes. It was fully organized in 1835." History of the Counties McKean, Elk, Cameron and Potter, Pennsylvania. Chicago: J.H. Beers and, 1890.
[21]The American Eagle (Easton, PA), November 10, 1804, lists James Montgomery with a total of 1671 votes in Northampton County, but the townships listed add up to 1670.
[22]Newspapers report the Federal electors as receiving 5 votes in Northumberland County with the exception of the Republican Argus, which states: "The highest candidate on the Federal ticket had SIX VOTES!!! District No. 1 (Sunbury and Augusta) gave the greatest number of votes in proportion to their population; district No. 2 (Point) gave the fewest, and gave all the federal votes which were given in the County, except four!" The Republican Argus, and County Advertiser (Northumberland, PA). November 9, 1804.
[23]Totals include both Philadelphia County and Philadelphia City.
[24]The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) of November 13, 1804, lists the Republican electors with 977 votes, but the subsequent November 27, 1804 edition lists them with 942.
