[1]"Yesterday the Legislature appointed two Judges of the Court of Appeals -- Judges Cabell and Coalter, (now sitting in the Court of Appeals under an executive appointment) and Judge White (of the General Court) were in nomination. On the 1st ballot, Cabell had 93, White 87, and Coalter 18. The last being dropt by a rule of the house, the 2nd ballot gave Cabell 102, White 94, Scattering 3 -- of course Cabell was elected.
