[9]"The ticket which Mr. Batson's friends have formed, has been elected entire, except Thomas Carlisle, in whose place Thomas Sorden is elected." The Delaware and Eastern Shore Advertiser (Wilmington, DE). October 10, 1799.
[10]There was a split in the Federalist party during this election. The party split into factions that the Delaware and Eastern Shore Advertiser refers to as "Mr. Robinson's friends" and "Mr. Batson's friends". All of the members elected to the House of Representatives except for one were "Mr. Batson's friends".
