[1]"Mr. MacHenry and Doctor Coulter were not put in Nomination till the Second Day of the Election; but it being well known that they were decidely of Opinion, that the Ratification of the Constitution ought to precede any Amendments of Alterations." The Maryland Journal, and the Baltimore Advertiser (Baltimore, MD). April 11, 1788.
[2]Chesapeake Politics: 1781-1800 lists James MacHenry with 902 votes and Samuel Sterett with 383 votes.
[3]Convention had elected 64 Federalist and 12 Anti-Federalist (Anne Arundel 4, Harford 4 and Baltimore County 4). Vote on Constitution was 63 to 11. William Paca voted For and two Federalist (Robert Goldsborough of Dorchester and Jeremiah Banning of Talbot) did not attend.
