[2]There were two sessions of the New York State Legislature in 1814. The first session was convened in January, and the second in late September. As a result, there are two sets of elections for Legislative Officers. The Federalists controlled the first Legislature, and elected both the Assembly Speaker and Clerk. In the April 1814 state elections, the Republicans regained control of the Legislature. They elected their own choices for Assembly Speaker and Clerk, defeating the incumbent Federalist officers.
