[1]Newspaper reports of the election did not give a first name for candidate Griffin, but the book 'A History of Allegany County, N.Y. published by F. W. Beers and Co. New York in 1879' has many references to an individual named John Griffin. John Griffin settled in Allegany County during 1818 and by 1822 he held several local offices in the town of Cuba. He was appointed a County Judge in 1828 and elected the State Senate in 1834.
