[2]"The meeting proceeded to the election of a governor in the place of his excellency Richard Howell, Esq. resigned, when it appeared that there were thirty votes for Joseph Bloomfield, Esq. and twenty for Richard Stockton, Esq." American. And Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD). November 9, 1801.
[3]"On Saturday last, the two Houses convened in joint meeting, and proceeded to the election of a Governor. Richard Howell, our former Governor, having resigned, Gen. [4]"On Friday last, Richard Howell, Esq. signified to the Legislature, that he declined being considered a Candidate for the Office of Governor of the State of New Jersey the ensuing year. in a joint-meeting of both Houses of the Legislature, on Saturday last, Major General Joseph Bloomfield was elected Governor of the State of New-Jersey for the year ensuing, by a majority of ten votes, over Richard Stockton, Esq. the Federal candidate."
