Notes:
[1]"They give an average majority of the federal ticket, of 265. We call it the democratic ticket, because, we find, with real satisfaction, that it was supported almost exclusively by democrats. It was put in nomination by them, doubtless with the hope of dividing and distracting the federal party, and by this means to effect a revolution in a county that had withstood every undisguised effort they could make. --But the people of Columbia were not so easily to be duped. They remain what they long have been, and, we trust, will long continue to be--the undeviating supporters of federalism." Northern Whig (Hudson, NY). May 6, 1817.
