[4]Andrew Murdock, Sheriff of Orange County, wrote in the certified Election Results, "it appears taking only the votes from the Senate Box into view that William Strudwick Esquire is elected by a Majority of two votes to represent said county in the Senate of the next General Assembly. That by taking into consideration the votes from the commons Box that appears to be intended for the Senate and placing them to the poll of the respective candidates that in this mode if adopted, David Ray Eswq. would have a majority of ten votes. Having thus specially stated the case corroborated by the inspectors certificates hereto subjoined do hereby certify and declare that under the above circumstances above recited William F. Strudwick Esq. is Elected as Senator for the county of Orange to represent the same in the ensuing General Assembly of this State, I do further certify that the Election appeared to be conducted fairly."
[5]There were also 4 votes for William Strudwick and 16 votes for David Ray found in the common box.
