[1]"House of Representatives. Friday Jan. 17, 1812. After the disposal of many local and private papers; and the Speaker having obtained leave of absence. The Hon. Mr. Bigelow moved that the thanks of the House be given to the Hon. Joseph Story, for the able, assiduous and impartial manner in which he had discharged the duties of the chair. Which motion having been put by the clerk, passed unanimously. .... The Hon. Mr. Story then retired from the chair. A committee was then chosen to collect sort and count the votes for Speaker; who reported the whole number of votes to be 429 - of which 215 were necessary to make a choice."
