[1]Elected.
[2]The Star (Raleigh, NC) lists John W. Eppes as the War candidate and John Randolph as the Peace candidate.
[3]The Columbian (New York, NY) reports totals as 934 votes for Randolph and 1112 votes for Eppes.
[4]The Nashville Whig (Nashville, TN) lists 506 votes for John W. Eppes.
[5]The Columbian (New York, NY), The Virginia Patriot (Richmond, VA), The Virginia Argus (Richmond, VA) and Hagers-Town Gazette (Hagerstown, MD) report 342 votes for Randolph.
[6]"At the election in 1811, Randolph in the same county obtained 450 votes, and Eppes only 77, being an increase of 100 Republican votes in Mr. Randolph's strong hold -- Mr. R's loss is 105 -- making a difference of 205 votes against him in his own county. A friend in Charlotte observes, 'Mr. R. will meet with his just due at the close of the election -- Eppes's poll is not corrupted with one federalist, tory or Englishman.' In Buckingham Eppes will obtain an overwhelming majority: -- He is sure of a majority also in Cumberland, and will divide handsomely with the self-conceited great commoner in Prince Edward. We therefore consider Eppes's election as certain, and congratulate the nation on the great triumph -- a triumph almost equal to the capture of an English frigate." Augusta Chronicle (Augusta, GA). April 23, 1813.
[7]Republican Star or Eastern Shore General Advertiser (Easton, MD), The Nashville Whig (Nashville, TN), The Virginia Argus (Richmond, VA) and Alexandria Gazette, Commercial and Political (Alexandria, VA) list 342 votes for John Randolph.
[8]The Columbian (New York, NY), Republican Star or Eastern Shore General Advertiser (Easton, MD), Missouri Gazette (Saint Louis, MO) and Alexandria Gazette, Commercial and Political (Alexandria, VA) report 208 votes for John W. Eppes and 148 votes for John Randolph.
