Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]"Extract of a letter from Berkshire District. 'The election here has terminated in favor of the democratic candidate, as was expected. Perhaps the results might have been the same, though certainly with less majority, if the Federal Republican Candidate had been agreed upon at an earlier day; but I regret that was not the case. As it was, Federalism would have been much better supported if the weather had not been stormy.'" The Mercury and New-England Palladium (Boston, MA). November 19, 1802.
[3]"The foregoing statement we believe is generally accurate--It will be seen that Mr. Skinner is chosen by a considerable of a majority of those who attended the town meetings--but there is not the least doubt but that Mr. Dewey would have had several hundered more votes had not the 'squally' weather prevented the Federalists from attending in a number of towns--but no squalls of any kind will keep a Demo. at home on election day. The Berkshire Democrats have now another opportunity to 'blow the' same 'trumpet' with which they lately made such a noise on hearing of the election of Mr. Rodney--we hope they will improve it, as 'tis probable it will be their last." The Western Star (Stockbridge, MA). November 6, 1802.
[4]"On Monday last the election for Members of Congress took place in the several Districts within this State. In the District of Berkshire, the result is truly glorious. Gen. SKINNER has received a majority of about five hundred votes. The aggregate number of votes at the present election, owing to the disagreeable weather, is much less than at the preceding. The majority, however, in proportion to the number of votes given in, has never been greater, at any period, since the 'reign of terror.' Upon this joyful event, we heartily congratulate the real friends of VIRTUE, LIBERTY and the CONSTITUTION." The Sun (Pittsfield, MA). November 8, 1802.
