[3]"From the above statement of the votes taken in the counties of Clinton and Franklin, it will be seen that Mr. Hoit, the federal republican candidate, has been re-elected a member of our state legislature by an increased majority.--This result, so honorable to the character of Mr. Hoit, is rendered doubly interesting, from the consideration that it involves the total downfall of democracy in these two counties, and places the cause of federalism upon a sure and substantial foundation. It is indeed, matter of great joy, that friends of rational freedom have a third time been enabled to elect their candidate in spite of every opposition, and to triumph over the machinations and intrigues of designing men;--and we sincerely rejoice that our fellow citizens have evinced their attachment to sound prin-."
