[1]This election was contested by Mr. Taylor and after testimony offered the seat was declared to be vacant and another writ of election was ordered.
[2]"Giving to Mr. Davis a majority of one. The election will no doubt be contested - other grounds apart, one of the voters declared, immediately after he had voted, that he was an alien; his vote, he said was for Mr. Davis. --The managers mention this in their return. Three votes for Taylor were found in the Congressional box, and three for Col. Campbell, for Congress, in the Senatorial box." Charleston Courier (Charleston, SC). 15 February 1823.
