[6]"None have been announced for Mr. Adams." The Commentator (Frankfort, KY).
[7]There are addition errors in the totals given in the various newspapers. The total of 6,465 given for Henry Clay in District 2 in the Kentucky Gazette December 2, 1824 is a mistake. The total vote if that figure is used adds up to 17,233 when it should be 16,933. So the vote in Distict 2 should really be 6,165 and when that figure is used the total then adds up to 16,933. The totals for Jackson also do not add up, but in this case I think it is only a matter of the last two figures being reversed. The totals adding up to 6,362 but they are printed as 6,326. I believe the correct votes in District 2 should be; for Clay 6,165 and Jackson 2,711. The county returns for Clay as given in the Cincinnati Advertiser December 29, 1824. are correct, even though the total say 6,163 they actually add up to 6,165.
[8]"In the state of Kentucky, no votes were taken, at the recent election of Electors, but for such as were favorable either to Mr. Clay or Gen. Jackson. The following is given as the result of the whole vote of the State: For Mr. Clay, 17331; For Gen Jackson, 6455." American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD). December 21, 1824.
[9]"The following are the offical returns of the votes given for President and Vice President, in the second electoral district. It will be seen that the Jackson Ticket prevailed in three counties - in others the votes were nearly equal, and throughtout the district, the support received by the Hero has been far stronger than could have been anticipated in Mr. Clay's own state." Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY). November 24, 1824.
[10]Weekly Messenger (Russsellville) and Cincinnati Advertiser report 6163 total votes for Henry Clay. Kentucky Reporter (Lexington, KY) and Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY) report 6165 total votes for Clay
[11]Weekly Messenger (Russsellville), Cincinnati Advertiser and Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY) report 2761 votes for Andrew Jackson. Kentucky Reporter (Lexington, KY) lists 2711 votes for Jackson.
[12]The Kentucky Gazette lists 6465 votes for Henry Clay and 2711 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[13]The Eagle (Maysville, KY) and Niles' Weekly Register (Baltimore, MD) lists 6165 votes for Clay and 2761 votes for Jackson.
[14]"The following is a statement of the number of votes given in each county, for the Clay ticket and those for the Jackson ticket. There were, also, a few scattering votes given for Electors in favor of Mr. Adams and Mr. Crawford, the precise number we have not learned." The Commentator (Frankfort, KY). December 4, 1824.
[15]The November 17th Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY) lists in Green County 309 votes for Henry Clay and 294 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[16]"In Elizabethtown, at the close of the polls, Jackson had 76 and Clay 177 votes." Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY). November 13, 1824.
[17]Kentucky Reporter (Lexington, KY) reports 28 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[18]"At the close of the first day's election in Louisville, Kentucky, the vote stood for Jackson 465 - for Clay 231." American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD). November 2, 1824.
[19]"At the close of the polls in this county on Tuesday evening, the vote stood thus: For the Clay Ticket 347; For the Jackson Ticket 105." Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY). November 13, 1824.
[20]The November 27th Alexandria Gazette and Advertiser (Alexandria, VA) and the November 2nd American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD) lists 387 votes for Henry Clay and 743 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[21]The Charleston Mercury, and Morning Advertiser (Charleston, SC) and Alexandria Gazette and Advertiser (Alexandria, VA) lists 453 votes for Henry Clay and 24 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[22]There is no Richmond County in Kentucky. Since the Alexandria Gazette and Advertiser (Alexandria, VA) and the American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD) were out of state newspapers, it is not surprising that they got some of the locations wrong. The report was probably listed as Richmond co/ct, an abbrevation perhaps for Richmond Court House, since that was the shire town of Madison County and a voting place..
[23]Cincinnati Advertiser reports 117 votes for Andrew Jackson.
[24]The November 17th Louisville Public Advertiser (Louisville, KY) lists in Shelby County 707 votes for Henry Clay and 493 votes for Andrew Jackson.
