The second of six ballots, which took place over three days. The first two ballots took place on the first day, the third ballot on the second day, and the fourth, fifth, and sixth ballots on the third day.
"On Thursday last, the Hon. Hutchins G. Burton, Representative in Congress from the Halifax District, was elected Governor of this State. The different ballotings, a correspondent informs us, were as follows:... All the candidates opposed to Col. Burton were Jackson men... Col.
