[4]"Acts of Tennessee, 1796, Chapter IV, (Second Session)...divided the state into three electoral districts and named three persons from each county in each district to elect an elector for each of the three districts, namely, Washington, Hamilton, and Mero."
[5]Section 2 of the Enactment mentioned above gives a list of the "appointed electors to elect an elector in the district of Mero, for the purpose aforesaid." that being an elector to elect an elector to elect the President and Vice-President of the United States.
[6]In regard to Sevier County in 1796, a poll list contains the names of 54 voters. "A list of Electors for Sevier County 1796. Returns for Sevier County." No totals are given. This is to be found in the Governor's Papers of John Sevier.
