Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]Edward Vaughn was duly elected Sheriff of Gloucester County in 1795. However, two newspapers, the Guardian October 27, 1795 and The New-Jersey Journal (Elizabethtown, NJ) October 21, 1795, erroneously reported that Samuel Flanningham had won, despite the fact he was not even listed on the ballot. Samuel Flanningham had been elected Sheriff in 1794 and as there was no newspaper in Gloucester County, and without the actual returns for reference, the newspapers may have just assumed that Samuel Flaningan, being the incumbent, was re-elected.
