Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]"In the Senatorial district composed of the city and county of Philadelphia and county of Delaware, the federal republican candidate, Mr. Heston, is elected over the notorious William Duane, by a majority of about 1200 votes. Olah! Billy, your friends have forsaken you." The Centinel (Gettysburg, PA). October 21, 1807.
[3]"Binns, on the 4th of July last, gave as a toast, "William Duane, the virtuous and patriotic editor of the Aurora;" he now informs us, that this same Duane is a disorganizer, a poltroon, etc." The Huntingdon Gazette (Huntingdon, PA). October 22, 1807.
[4]Vote totals sometimes vary by source.
[5]"The Constitutional Ticket has carried in Philadelphia. Edward Heston is elected to the Senate by a majority of about 1200, over William Duane." The Cumberland Register (Carlisle, PA). October 20, 1807.
[6]An edition of the Aurora lists Edward Heston with 2555 votes.
[7]In some sources, this same district is been referred to as "Bustleton."
[8]Vote totals from Byberry and Moreland are included in the votes reported for Lower Dublin township.
[9]Vote totals from Byberry are included in the votes reported for Lower Dublin township.
[10]Vote totals from Moreland are included in the votes reported for Lower Dublin township.
[11]Frankford was a borough erected out of Oxford township in 1800, and is mentioned as a voting location in some returns for the district.
[12]Vote totals for Bristol are reported with the votes from Germantown.
[13]Vote totals for Germantown include votes from Bristol.
[14]The True American and Commercial Advertiser (Philadelphia, PA) from October 14 lists votes for each of the townships in the district. However, the separate totals reported there at an early estimation (amounting to 347 votes for Edward Heston and 714 votes for William Duane) are not accurate and do not match the final vote tallied for the district and reported the next day in the same source (436 and 624 respectively for Edward Heston and William Duane). The figures for the individual townships are only given in that one source on October 14 and are therefore reported here for information, even though they do not appear to be accurate final voting results for those townships.
