[3]"It appears to your committee, that at the close of the poll for election of delegates, to represent the county of Amelia, in the month of April last, the number of votes stoods as followeth: For Alexander Jones 206, For Joshua Chaffin 194. That it appeared to your committee, that 61 votes ought to be stricken off from the poll of the said Alexander Jones, the persons not being qualified to vote according to law ~ and then the number will stand For Joshua Chaffin 194 Alexander Jones 145." [4]Joseph Eggleston was elected to the U.S. Congress and therefore was not present in this Assembly. He was succeeded by William B. Giles. See Amelia Special election.
[5]Joseph Eggleston was elected to fill the seat of William B. Giles, who resigned his U.S. Senate seat October 20, 1798. Willam B. Giles then ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in the Amelia County special election to fill the seat of Mr. Eggleston.
