[13]"On Tuesday last the inhabitants of this town made choice of twelve Representatives for the ensuing year. On account of the decrease of the polls, (owing to that deleterious policy which has blasted our commerce and our seaports) the number is one less than last year, and two less than the town had a right to send three years ago. It is honorable to the Federalists, that, though they were opposed by no democratic ticket, they did not sink into supineness, but gave their own, composed of the following gentlemen, 518 votes."
