Notes:
[1]Massachusetts law required a majority to elect for the U.S. House of Representatives. The original election was held on November 7, 1796. A 3rd Trial would be held on May 10, 1797.
[2]"There is no probability of a choice of Federal Representative at this trial. - Judge Bowman has almost all the votes in the eastern part of this county; and in many towns there were 60 or 70 votes. The friends of all parties calculate that Dearborn will have 800 votes - Bowman 600, and Parker 500 - If Mr. Parker should not have as many votes as Judge Bowman, the friends of Mr. P. ought to unite for Judge Bowman. Should the latter decline, Dearborn will undoubtedly be chosen, on account of the prevailing prejudice in Lincoln county against Lawyers." The Telegraph February 11, 1797/
