[5]"We are authorised to state that Dickerson Roberts, was not a candidate, for assembly, with his consent -- not being put upon the ticket by the convention of delegates. He had no knowledge of his name being put into tickets, until the evening before the election -- and then it was thought to be too late to counteract. And had we have known this fact before the general return was put into type, we should have omitted Mr. Robert's name, because it is evident that his name was made use of for particular purposes, by his political opponents. We are also warranted in stating, that Col. Joseph Barr's name was used by the federal party, in their meeting at Mr. Jackson's, without his knowledge or consent, and had he known it in season, he would have published a declination as Mr. Keys did."
