Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]The Newport Mercury (Newport, RI) lists 1440 votes for Jonathan Comstock.
[3]"No proxy for General Officers were brought in, after proclamation being made and a suffcient time allowed for that purpose." Herald of the United States (Warren, RI). April 20, 1799.
[4]The Newport Mercury (Newport, RI) lists 132 votes for Jonathan Comstock.
[5]The Weekly Companion; and the Commercrial Centinel (Newport, RI) and The Newport Mercury (Newport, RI) list 58 votes for Job Greene.
[6]There is a possible error in the Offical Reports. It was reported that Comstock received 8 votes in the Reports, but I believe that is a mistake and that it should be 88, based on the votes for the other two offices in that town. For Lt. Governor and First Senator the total votes in Westerly were 105, but for 3rd Senator it was only 22. If the return was Greene 14 and Comstock 88 then the total vote would be 102, only 3 votes less than the other two offices. There was no such drop off in the votes from any of the other towns, so I do believe this was a transcribing error on the part of whomever wrote up the tally sheet for the Reports.
