[2]"Tuesday last, agreeably to the Constitution, the Legislative Council and General Assembly of this State met at the state house in Trenton; ... On Thursday following, we understand, the two houses went into joint-meeting, when Joseph Bloomfield and Richard Stockton, Esquires, were the only candidates for the Office of Governor. On counting the votes, it appeared that Bloomfield had 37, and Stockton, 16--so that Joseph Bloomfield, Esq. is re-elected Governor of this State, by a majority of 21."
