[8]"Of seven Representatives in the General Court, for the town of Boston, took place yesterday, at Faneuil-Hall. The poll was kept open until 3 o'clock, when the following result was declared.--Whole No. of votes 2060 ... The seven gentlemen in the first column, which composed the Federal Ticket, were accordingly chosen. It is with pride we mention, that throughout the whole business of the Election, the utmost urbanity prevailed." Boston Gazette (Boston, MA). May 12, 1803.
[9]"BOSTON--Chose its Representatives on Wednesday last. The poll continued open from eleven to half past two o'clock... It is, perhaps, unnecessary to add, that these gentlemen composed the Federal Republican Ticket, and are chosen. On the ticket, agreed upon at the democratic caucus, two federalists were inserted, to create a division in the federal interest. The support of the Middle Interest, and of the new Bank, was a mere pretext.--The numerous federalists belonging to the Middle Interest, and who are subscribers to the Bank, having from the beginning resolved to resist every attempt to render the institution a political engine, steadily adhered to first principles; and gave their suffrages for the Men who have faithfully served them; and in whom they repose confidence, for the unequivocal support of every institution, which has the public good, and general convenience, so much for its basis, as the projected Bank. Such men were not to be deceived by any artifice; and with them the public welfare is paramount to all other considerations. Of consequence the mixed list was, only supported as follows:--ABIEL SMITH, Esq. 905; RUSSELL STURGIS, Esq. 884; DAVID TILDEN, Esq. 875; JAMES BOWDOIN, Esq. 875; NATHANEL FELLOWS, Esq. 842; CHARLES PAINE, Esq. 815."
