[2]"At three o'clock both houses convened in the representatives chamber for the purpose of electing a Senator in Congress vice Jenkins Whiteside resigned. G.W. Campbell was put in nomination, and on counting the ballots had 38 votes, whereupon the Speaker of the Senate rose and in the presence of both houses, pronounced George W.
