[1]"Pursuant to the concurrent resolution of the Senate and Assembly, the house proceeded openly to nominate a Senator to represent this state in the Senate of the Congress of the United States, in the room of the honorable John Smith, whose time of service will expire on the third day of March next, and each member present openly nominated a person as follows, to wit: Resolved, That Rufus King, of Jamaica, in Queen's county, be and he is hereby nominated, on the part of this house, a Senator to represent this state in the Senate of the Congress of the United States, for the term of six years from and after the third day of March next."
