Tipton, Blount and Lillard were put in nomination...Upon counting the votes, Mr. Trimble reported that John Tipton had nine votes, William Lillard had twelve, and Willie Blount had three...Whereupon Mr. Blount's name was withdrawn and the house proceeded to ballot a second time and ...reported that Mr. Tipton had a majority of the whole house."
