Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]"From the foregoing return, it appears that Patrick Gwin, an ignoramus who cannot write his own name, intelligibly, is elected Sheriff of this County by a majority of 170 votes, over John Beatty, whose services to his country in the time that 'tried men's souls', was equal to ANY our county can boast of--Gwin, when he heard the result of the Election in Shirley district, exclaimed with rapture, 'I'm the SHERIFF'- The fellow don't [sic] know that it requires qualifications and the conduct of a gentleman to constitute that officer-what all the electors in the County can never endow him with." The Huntingdon Gazette (Huntingdon, PA). October 12, 1809.
