Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]"The case of John H. Bryan's election to Congress from the New Bern district, over the former member Mr. Spaight, is one without parallel in this state. For some time previous to, and during, the election, Mr. Bryan was absent from home, in the State of New-York. One portion of his friends brought his name forward for Congress, and another for state senate, without consulting him, and without his knowledge: and, unprecedented as it is, he was elected to both stations. He will doubtless resign his situation as senator, and accept of a seat in Congress." Western Carolinian (Salisbury, NC). September 6, 1825.
[3]The Nashville Whig (Nashville, TN) lists John H. Bryan with a majority of 94 votes.
[4]A letter from James Manney to John H. Bryan in the William Shepard Bryan Papers lists John H. Bryan with a majority of 216 votes.
