[1]"The house then proceeded to the choice of an Assistant Clerk, when Messrs. Alexander M. Nelson, Thomas Buckingham and Robert Houston were put in nomination...upon counting of the votes, reported that Mr. Nelson had nine votes; Mr. Buckingham, eleven; and Mr. Houston five votes; neither having a majority of the whole house. Mr. Houston's name was then withdrawn and...upon counting the votes reported that Mr. Nelson had a majority, was duly elected and qualified accordingly."
