Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]Rhode Island law required a majority to elect. A subsequent election for the remaining seat would be held on April 15, 1801.
[3]"It is said that Thomas Tillinghast, Esq. of East-Greenwich, and Thomas Tillinghast, Esq. of West-Greenwich, both claim the votes which did not particularly designate the candidate of that name; and in this case it is probable there has not been a choice." The Impartial Observer (Providence, RI). September 1, 1800. In spite of the comment in the Impartial Observer, it was Thomas Tillinghast of East Greenwich who was elected.
[4]The Providence Journal, and Town and Country Advertiser (Providence, RI) list Thomas Tillinghast with 130 votes, Joseph Stanton with 35 votes, Richard Jackson with 100 votes and Asher Robbins with 10 votes.
