Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]"Mr. Daniel Kerper, a sterling Democrat, is elected sheriff, by a majority over Col. Bickel of 111 votes; he was the sheriff of this county some years ago, and acquitted himself with honor and to the entire satisfaction of the people, as he will unquestionably again do. There were 7 candidates for this office, and all clever fellows; but it is well known that our predilections were for Mr. Kerper and we are of course glad that he is elected. The contest between the sheriff candidates was more close than it otherwise would have been, from the influence of Mr. Kerper's friends being too much embarked in the cause of Mr. Shulze, to his neglect." Chronicle of the Times (Reading, PA). October 15, 1823.
[3]The Chronicle of the Times (Reading, PA) and the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) both list Daniel Kerper with 3425 votes though the township totals add up to 3355 votes.
[4]The Chronicle of the Times (Reading, PA) and the Der Readinger Adler (Reading, PA) both list John Miller with 562 votes though the township totals add up to 643 votes.
