[1]Elected.
[2]The Hon. Samuel Livermore having resigned his seat in the Senate of the United States, the Legislature on Tuesday last, agreeably to assignment, proceeded to the choice of a Senator in his stead." Courier of New Hampshire (Concord, NH). June 18, 1801.
[3]"The Federalists also encountered some difficulty in electing a senator to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of septuagenarian Samuel Livermore. There was some sentiment for William Plumer, but the Connecticut Valley faithful insisted upon Simeon Olcott, the ineffectual chief justice of the superior court, and refused to vote for any other candidate. Plumer willingly released his supporters but Olcott was not an impressive candidate, and it was only by a slender majority of eleven that he was elected (fn: Plumer, "Autobiography", (Library of Congress), 92; House Journal, June 1801, 64)." The Ninth State. 185.
[4]"The Senate concurred by only two dissenting votes." Courier of New Hampshire (Concord, NH). June 18, 1801.
