[4]"On the 18th inst. the Legislature ballotted for a Senator in Congress for six years ensuing the 4th of March next ~ there were four candidates, and after three ballotings John Taylor, esq. was chosen. On the third ballot, only two started (Taylor and Alston), the votes were, for Taylor 83; Alston 74. ~ John Taylor, esq. is also elected by the legislature as Senator in the present Congress, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Gen.
