[1]"On Thursday afternoon both Houses of the Legislature were convened in Joint Meeting for the purpose of choosing a Senator of the United States. After the names of John Condit, George C. Maxwell, Henry Southard and William McCullough had been withdrawn from the nomination, there remained those of Ebenezer Elmer, James Linn, John Lambert and John Doughty."
